Artist's Comments

I finished this about a month ago but didn't get a round to putting it up. Honestly, I couldn't find an appropriate category to put this in. It's mythology which is like fantasy, but its not quite "sword and sorcery." I could put it under portraits, but of a fictional character? Whatever.

This is Pandora. Why a vase-like container instead of a box? Because there was never a box. In a mistranslation of Hesiod's Works and Days, the word "pithos" (meaning a large type of jar) was replaced with "pyxis" (a small box-like container).

I tried to infuse some symbology of her as an archetype of the first woman and bringer of evil (her story is very simlar to Eve's in Genesis).

Oil on board. 16" x 20"

Very nice...EXCEPT for her left arm (viewer's right.) I don't buy the physiology, nor the color. And if I were you, I'd fix it! It short-sells the whole piece. I hope that didn't sound harsh, because you've clearly got some mad skills. But it's kinda like seeing a beautiful woman, only to find out she's got body odor; destroys the whole illusion! ;) Paint on!
Beautiful work, lovely detail
Amazing!

There is no way to measure an artist, or their work, because nothing matters, but their vision. Their acceptance by the rest of the world is merely external.
Simply exquisite. Hard to find such care in a piece these days especially in traditional.

I can't say I agree with @quickreaver about the arm at all - and I'm not being a mindless fan here. I like the fact that is acts as a wedge on the right hand side and the contrast and color for me, brings it forward in the composition....

Nice to see constructive comment though.
I love the movement and colour!!
